A recent survey conducted by the Washington-based Arab American Institute reveals a significant loss of support for US President Joe Biden among Arab American voters in four swing states. The study, which polled 900 Arab American voters in Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, highlights growing discontent with Biden's unwavering backing of the Israeli regime amid the deadly atrocities in the Gaza Strip.
The survey results, released on Thursday, show that 88 percent of respondents disapprove of Biden's handling of the conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of over 36,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. If presidential elections were held today, only 18 percent of Arab American voters would support Biden, compared to 32 percent favoring his rival, Donald Trump. This marks a stark decline from the 60 percent support Biden received from Arab American voters in the 2020 election.
Michigan, a crucial state for Biden's re-election prospects, is particularly concerning given the significant drop in support among Arab American voters. Earlier this year, protests erupted during Democratic primaries in Michigan and Virginia, with many casting "uncommitted" or blank votes in response to Biden's stance on Gaza.
Despite Biden's threat to freeze arms support in the event of a full-scale invasion of Gaza, the US continues to provide the Israeli regime with military and intelligence assistance. The US has also vetoed UN Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire in the region.
Recent Israeli actions, including the occupation of Rafah's border crossing and deadly attacks on refugee camps, have intensified criticism of Biden's policy. Washington's refusal to reconsider its support for Tel Aviv, despite escalating violence and civilian casualties, further underscores the disillusionment among Arab American voters with the Biden administration's approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
